Estela de Nayuribe
“Hello, my name is Estela de Nayuribe Mena, and I am a proud Costa Rican. I want to introduce you to a little bit of this art that I fell in love with, but first I want to tell you a little about myself.

“I grew up in the province of Heredia, in a beautiful family with loving parents; my Salvadoran mother and my Costa Rican father. I was an only child for many years, so my parents were very protective of me, especially since I suffered from many illnesses when I was young. As a child I was cared for in a Salvadoran nursery, which I loved because it gave me the opportunity to grow up with the traditions and culture of the country where my mother was born.

“Art has always been in my family; my parents studied Plastic Arts at the National University of Costa Rica. So I grew up among colors, sculptures, paintings and music.
I think I grew up feeling that it was part of me, since painting or making a bracelet fills me with a wonderful feeling--it fills me with peace, tranquility and emotion.

“Starting to make handmade jewelry originated as a way to help my children financially, after the closure of my small business where I dedicated myself to selling various pieces made of clay. I took my first steps in the world of jewelry by receiving training, which allowed me to turn it into a source of income and a recreational activity that helped me take care of my mental health. I also turned it into a tribute to the memory of the baby I lost at 16 weeks of gestation. That helped me to continue creating; each piece I have made since then has been for that baby who lives in my heart and in my memories.

“My children are my greatest motivation; the love of a mother is incredibly moving. It is for them that I get up every day and it is a great thrill to be part of this Novica family. It was a huge step to be able to sell my products to all parts of the world. That is why I appreciate the trust in my art. I would like to be able to tell people who buy a piece from my catalog: each one was made with much love and affection by Costa Rican hands.”
