Xiomara Valverde
"Our country is one of enterprising women and men, with a desire to excel. In many corners of Costa Rica we find artists, artisans and entrepreneurs.

“My name is Xiomara Valverde Barquero and I define myself as an entrepreneur and innovative person. I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1970, where I began my childhood. We lived with my parents in the United States until I was 5 years old, and then we decided to return to our country.

“My grandfather was a shoemaker, and since I was a child I enjoyed seeing how he did his work in leather. The smell, the finesse, the love with which he did it inspired me and made me interested in this art. I started in the craft due to an illness that made me stop working; life circumstances made me stronger and motivated me to continue with my own business since 2014, with the unconditional support of my husband.

“I work with faux leather scraps and leftovers. I always try to recycle and take advantage of this beautiful resource. I make jewelry and watches with tools such as gouges, cutters and household tools. I love creating, designing and making; and seeing the finished piece is my greatest satisfaction. I am mainly inspired by nature, innovation, improving myself, and of course, my family.

“My products are 100% Costa Rican, designed with great care. This is a new venture, and I am very grateful for the opportunity.”
