"I am proud to be part of the culture of my country. I believe that artisans are the ones who enhance our Guatemala.

“My name is Claudia Lorena Spain Moreira; I was born in 1974 in La Antigua Guatemala. I grew up in a home of artisans; my great-grandparents made clay piggy banks, and my father made birds and sculptures. Since I was little I became involved in all the processes. I learned to make little chickens that were my first works, and clay roosters. I was in charge of varnishing, anchoring and waxing. I worked a lot in my childhood, supporting my parents with ceramics and studying at the same time. My dad was very strict, but that helped me to be responsible.

“I have been in my own business for around 35 years, in this family inheritance that has been transmitted from generation to generation. I involve my children in the whole process. Being involved in all art processes helped me learn it. What I like the most is that my works are appreciated by clients. I work with clay and acrylic paints and do not use any materials that harm the environment. The hand-modeled ducks, roosters and hens, and especially the vases represent such a beautiful Guatemalan tradition.

"My dream is to grow with my art and convey my feelings in each piece. My plans for the future include creating an organization to help children in rural areas. Each of my pieces is unique, since it is molded by hand and transmits my feelings and emotions. I appreciate all the support you give me to expose my pieces.”
