Floribel Oxcal
“My name is Kaslen Floribel Oxcal. I was born in Guatemala City in 1991, and I dedicate myself to the design and creation of clothing and accessories. I am the first daughter of my mother, who bravely took on the responsibility of being a single mother. She had to work hard for a long time, so I grew up with my grandparents.

“My childhood was very healthy and happy. We had very little, but that was never an impediment to being very happy. I grew up without the love of my father; however I knew from a very young age that he was a great master tailor, and that was what prompted me to enter this world.

“Upon graduating from school I realized my talent, so I sold my class ring, bought a sewing machine and began to develop my skills little by little. Over the years, alone in my workshop, I began to make different handicrafts that have become my passion today.

“My first piece of work was some double zipper purses. At that time my mother worked in a hospital, and she was in charge of selling them with her co-workers. This year, I formally started my business. I continue to make bags, purses and wallets, but I am also making clothes. It is a totally different world, but I fall in love every day; plus the pieces have the power to highlight the beauty of women.

“In addition to this, I really enjoy rescuing dogs from the street, many of whom have suffered abuse. I dedicate myself to taking care of them and looking for a home for them. I would like to give a percentage of my sales to this work, to help the furry ones who are helpless.

“I want my clients, when they have one of my pieces in their hands, to know that each one is made with very good quality materials, but above all with a lot of love and dedication, so that the beauty of my Guatemala is appreciated all over the world.

“My dream is to have a large company that generates work for more people, especially women in my community; and to buy my own house. I hope that my crafts will reach many countries in the world and be able to achieve all my dreams.”
