'The story of Doña Beatriz, the first ever woman governor in Latin America inspired us to design this wall mirror,' the Valenzuela Family explains. They work with conacaste wood, shaping the frame like a highly ornate arched window.

Known for her beauty and elegance, Doña Beatriz was the wife of the then governor, Don Pedro de Alvarado. When he died in 1521 she became the governor of Santiago de Guatemala – today Iximche. When the Volcan de Agua erupted, it created a powerful avalanche of mud, trees and stones which destroyed the city. Doña Beatriz was found dead in a chapel holding her five year old daughter and a crucifix.
